LOVE NEVER DIES | Fabiana's custom gold ring with ruby, emeralds and a very personal story
There is always a personal story behind special pieces of jewelry - this is also the case with this gold ring and the matching earrings made of 585 yellow gold with emeralds and rubies, which we were allowed to make for Fabiana.
Some time ago we received a message from Fabiana that touched us deeply:
“Dear Johan and dear Fredrik, today would actually be my second wedding anniversary. Unfortunately, there was no first wedding anniversary and no wedding either, because my fiancé was killed in an avalanche five weeks earlier.”
She wore her bridal jewellery, which Fabiana found with us in the summer of 2018, to the funeral of her fiancé instead of to her wedding. “ I wear bracelets and earrings regularly. Such beautiful pieces, for which it is a shame to gather dust in a drawer!” However, the two could never wear the two wedding rings made of simple 585 yellow gold. " I was now wondering if it would be possible to make a beautiful piece of jewelery out of these rings just for me?" very moved.
STEP 1: THE IDEA
Fabiana and I discussed in detail how the new pieces of jewelry should look via FaceTime. It was very important to me to find out their personal ideas and then to give them professional advice on how to implement them. She wanted a new ring and matching earrings from the gold of both wedding rings. Gemstones should add even more meaning to jewelry. Fabiana decided on emeralds, which are supposed to help after a blow and ensure mental balance, and a ruby - the lucky stone of love and loyalty. It gives life force and is said to protect against evil.
Green and pink are also the favorite colors of Fabiana and her late fiancé Daniel, so my ambition was immediately aroused to find a ruby that was more pink/pink in hue than the classic red.
STEP 2: THE DRAFT
After getting a selection of different emeralds and rubies in all possible shapes, sizes and shades, my favorite part began: I was allowed to let my creativity run free and design various initial design proposals for the pieces of jewellery. Of course, Fabiana's wishes and specifications were taken into account right from the start. I then presented her with more than ten different variants, from very simple to a little more playful, everything was there. Fabiana was then able to decide which draft she liked best and express further wishes until the final design was finally established. Fabiana opted for a minimalist design, each with a small round emerald for the earrings, and a combination of five different stones for the ring: a design where a beautiful raspberry colored oval ruby is set by four emeralds in brilliant shades of green. The stone of love and fidelity, symbolically protected by the gemstones, which are said to help in the event of a stroke of fate.
STEP 3: IMPLEMENTATION
When the draft was finalized, both wedding rings and the gemstones selected by Fabiana traveled to Hamburg, where my wonderful colleague Anke Baumgarten supported me with the final implementation of the design with a lot of patience, an incredible amount of technical talent and her trained eye for detail. The wedding rings were melted down into a small gold ingot, from which the two new pieces of jewelry were then created in loving, labor-intensive manual goldsmith work. During the entire development phase, Fabiana did not want to see any photos and gave us her complete trust until completion.
As a finishing touch, we engraved the phrase "LOVE NEVER DIES" on the inside of the ring. Three words that perfectly express the whole story that this ring, made of the gold of two wedding bands, will forever carry.
STEP 4: THE HANDOVER
At last it was time! Fabiana absolutely wanted to pick up the jewelry personally from us in Stuttgart, so we were there live when she saw the end result of her idea for the first time. She was so enthusiastic about the earrings that she put them on straight away. Afterwards she opened the jewelry case with the new ring and I could feel her happiness, her enthusiasm and her speechlessness directly. I will never forget this magical moment. It was pure joy to see how happy she was after months of working together on this beautiful and very emotional project.
