When it finally gets warmer again in May, and the air smells of spring, I love to spend time outdoors. The first blossoms, the sun and the green of the trees always uplifts my mood. No wonder I enjoyed creating our current birthstone collection for May so much since the sparkling green emeralds beautifully reflect the vibrant greens of the finely re-emerging nature outside.
The word “emerald” comes from the Latin ”smaragdus”, which simply means “green stone”. But this green stone is anything but simple, next to the diamond, the ruby and the sapphire, emeralds are recognised as one of the four most valuable gemstones in the world! It is true that the darker and fuller the green colour of the stone is, the more valuable it is. Also, small cracks and inclusions are quite normal in the emerald, and if it does not have any, it is most likely to be a synthetic version.

Symbolically, this stone stands for hope, development and anticipation as well as being intended to give the wearer mental balance and clarity. The emerald is also called the “stone of divine inspiration” – so don’t be surprised if you suddenly have flashes of genius or terrific ideas when wearing one of our emerald jewellery designs.
The oldest known emerald is about 2.97 trillion years old. Of course, I did not use this one for our new designs, but the stones I found for our current mini collection are extraordinary – and more reasonable in price than the emerald pendant necklace from Elizabeth Taylor, which sold for an incredible $ 6.5 million back in 2011!
Now that you’ve become curious about which jewels I designed with the May Birthstone, you can discover our new Emerald Mini Collection here. I’d love to hear what you think about it so feel free to write me! And if green is not your colour, you can look forward to a change in June, with more than one birthstone being assigned that month, including the pearl and the moonstone. So if you have a design request with one of these two gems, just send me a message with your ideas – I love to be inspired by you!
